Chase is eliminating foreign transaction fees on its Marriott Rewards Premier credit card, according to an email from Chase Card Services.
The Marriott Rewards Premier credit card comes with a $65 annual fee, which is waived in the first year.
Marriott Rewards Premier cardholders earn five points for every dollar spent at Marriott locations, two points for every dollar spent on airline, dining and rental car purchases and one point for every dollar spent on all other purchases made with the card.
Cardholders receive 30,000 bonus points after their first purchase with the card plus a free night at a Marriott property. Each year, cardholders receive a free night at a Marriott property after their account anniversary with the card.
By dropping the card's 3 percent foreign currency conversion fee, Marriott Rewards Premier cardholders will pay 3 percent less on each foreign purchase made with the card, according to an email from Chase Card Services.
Most banks and credit card issuers charge foreign currency conversion fees when customers make purchases outside the United States.
In addition to the Marriott Rewards Premier card, Chase has eliminated foreign currency conversion charges on six credit cards, the Chase Sapphire Preferred card, Continental Airlines Presidential Plus card, British Airways Visa Signature card, Chase Priority Club Select Visa card, Hyatt Gold Passport card and United Mileage Plus card.
In recent months, Citibank and American Express have made moves to drop fees for foreign purchases from some credit cards.
Capital One has a longtime policy of not charging fees on foreign purchases on any of its credit cards.
